From Darkness to Glory
On He, the Light, a darkness fell and there a great despair
The world went dark and it was night as our Lord was hanging there
The Water cries, He cries “I thirst” from dry lips of Adonai
‘Twas as if Earth’s Oceans had somehow now gone dry
The Shepherd King of glory now the sacrificial Lamb
The God of all the universe falls into the hands of man
Though He was sinless and knew no sin became He now sin for us
Though He was rich yet for us poor, for the unjust, One who’s Just.
He who was Life, and Life itself, tasted death for every man
And became the seed that we most need to fulfill salvation’s plan
The Creator as a criminal, the Gain is counted loss
Eternal reduced to minimal, God’s Christ upon the Cross
But when you tell the story, don’t leave him hanging there
but sing also of the glory, not of sorrow or despair
for by his death and Resurrection, Jesus made a way
For your sins to be forgiven, and for you to be with him one day.
